Cancer is a group of diseases involving abnormal cell growth with the potential to invade or spread to other parts of the body. Not all tumors are cancerous; benign tumors do not spread to other parts of the body. Possible signs and symptoms include a lump, abnormal bleeding, prolonged cough, unexplained weight loss and a change in bowel movements. While these symptoms may indicate cancer, they may have other causes.
While you may think you’re being healthy by choosing the sugar-free or low-fat foods, you’re actually eating some of the most toxic foods on the market. In fact, so many of the foods we eat every single day have been proven to harm our health and cause cancer.
#1 Microwave Popcorn
There are a lot of reasons that microwave popcorn is cancerous. First of all, the bags are lined with perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), a cancerous chemical. Then the popcorn is usually a GMO product and mixed with soybean oil, another GMO product. Then there are preservatives and chemicals like diacetyl. Yum.
#2 Non-Organic Produce
Conventional produce is sprayed with a lot of pesticides including atrazine, thiodicarb, and organophosphates, as well as high nitrogen fertilizers. Washing the fruit does not remove all of the pesticides, and produce that has a high water content absorb a lot of the chemicals that cause cancer.
#3 Canned Tomatoes
The lining of most canned products contains bisphenol-A, or BPA. The acidity of tomatoes results in a higher amount of the chemical being leached into the food. BPA’s have been known to be cancerous. Look for tomato products in glass jars.
#4 Processed Meats
Processed meats is a large category that has some unfortunate things in common. There’s high levels of sodium and preservatives as well as chemicals like sodium nitrate, that has been known to cause cancer. Smoked meats also pick up the same types of carcinogens found in smoking.
#5 Farmed Salmon
Most farmed salmon are kept in small tanks that are overfilled with fish, resulting in the salmon swimming and eating in the excrement of all the other salmon. This also gives the fish higher levels of mercury, known to cause cancer. Only eat wild salmon, preferably from Alaska.
#6 Potato Chips
Potato chips contain lots of preservatives, high levels of sodium, artificial colors and flavors and trans fats. All of these things have been linked to cancer.
#7 Hydrogenated Oils
Hydrogenated oils are chemically extracted from the plants and vegetables. This process leaves the oils with high levels of Omega-6, which cause cancer and heart disease in unnatural levels.
