How has technology changed our lives? Throughout the years, technology became the touchstone of development. Scientists and Engineers never stop on searching for some means to make life easier and convenient. They develop machines that can perform work or other actions normally performed by humans. They also build robots to save on labor costs and for various practical purposes. It was even assumed that robots will one day be able to mimic human behavior and do tasks in a human-like fashion.
We have seen movies like the Iron Giant, The terminator, and Forbidden Planet and what can you say? They’re awesome, right? Well, it is quite obvious that as technological advances continue, robotics is growing rapidly too. Better robots are built capable of communicating with humans. And as time passes by, they even intend to create robots that are indistinguishable from humans. Have you heard about robots that are built to do jobs that are hazardous to people such as defusing bombs and exploring mines and shipwrecks?
Hanson Robotics’ latest prototype, a female humanoid robot was one of the most photographed women at South By Southwest. According to Macworld, this alpha-protoype came to SXSW for this first time last week and was named Sophia. Sophia could tell who invented her and how long she had been living. She was not ashamed to say, “I don’t know” when she can’t deliver an appropriate response to questions thrown at her. Quiet intelligent, right? But some say she’s just kind of rude especially in an interview with CNBC when realistic, human-like Sophia agrees with its maker when he jokingly asked her to destroy humans. To know more of what she is capable of, watch the video below.
